Ice Road Trucker, Lisa Kelly

Lisa Kelly is a famous face from the Ice Road Truckers and IRT Deadliest Roads television series.

She was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1980 but moved with her family to Sterling, Alaska at the age of six but returned to Michigan to attend Cornerstone University for one semester before deciding on a different life.

Before becoming an ice road trucker she worked at gas stations, a pizza company and drove school buses. Later she got a job with Carlile Transportation where, in her words because she was a woman, “I had to work twice as hard. I had to pull my weight as well as everyone else’s.”

Kelly drove the famous Dalton Highway from Fairbanks to Deadhorse on the Arctic Ocean. This distance was 414 miles and the highway had a total of 60 permanent residents in three settlements. The highest elevation on the road is 4,739 feet at Atigun Pass. Truckers have given some interesting names to some of the roads features including The Taps, The Shelf, The Bluffs, Oil Spill Hill, Beaver Slide, Roller Coaster and Oh Shit Corner.

Lisa Kelly featured in two Alaskan Ice Road Truckers television series and also IRT Deadliest Roads filmed in the Himalayas.  She has also driven trucks in Bolivia and Peru.

Lisa has been married to Traves Kelly since 2008 and their interests include motorcross biking, horse riding, skydiving and hang gliding.
